RESIDENTS of Taman Kajang Prima in Kajang recently got together to voice their objection over a proposal to put up a building on their playground at Jalan KP2/13.

The Taman Kajang Prima Residents Association made a formal complaint on Jan 27 following a discussion with the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).

Dr Rasa: Bought the house in Taman Prima Kajang because of the playground.

Its adviser, Khong Chee Seng, said residents found out about the proposal when several men came to measure a length of the playground.

Resident Siri Khandan Cumaravelu, 64, said he saw a group of men holding building plans one morning in early January.

“Later we noticed boundary markers on the field,” he said, adding that he almost tripped on one of the markers while walking at the playground.
Siri Khandan said residents actively used the playground for walks and jogs while children played around freely there.

Another resident, Dr Pathma Rasa, 47, said residents removed the boundary markers.
“The markers were actually sticks sticking out of the ground and children play here.
“These were dangerous so we took them out,” he said, adding that the men had also dug holes and cemented the holes to indicate a marking.

Dr Rasa said he bought the house in Taman Prima Kajang because of the playground.
Khong said the residents were against any form of construction on the playground.

“We checked the development order and found that the playground was specifically for the public to use for recreational and exercise purposes,” he said. Khong said checks with MPKj also showed that no approval had been given for the building to be put up at the playground.
